Sacred Earth Jewelry Interview

Name of your website?

Sacred Earth Jewelry

Your name?

Michele Doane

Your Location (city, etc)

Sonoma

Please give us a short summary of your website?

Sacred Earth Jewelry Artisan handcrafted gemstone jewelry. Necklaces, bracelets and earrings are handcrafted from fine semi-precious gemstones and silver.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

I wanted to reach a wider market than just selling in retail stores. I also wanted the challenge.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

November 2007, this website.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

The name "Sacred Earth Jewelry" came into being in 2003. As a long time environmentalist and outdoor person I am concerned about the ecological damage done to our planet over the past several decades. I have always believed this Earth is sacred and should be treated as such. My work and this company are a small tribute to our Earth and all her inhabitants.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

I give my customers a lot more information about the jewelry I am selling - about the gems and silver - so they can feel they are well informed.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

My goal is to keep going until I quit.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

Right now I am putting in a huge amount of time and effort. I hope it will pay off in the near future.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

It would probably be a larger site and would have more features to aid the customer - and it probably would be done a lot faster.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Not alone. I would have to hire someone to help me. Right now it is a one woman show.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

In any worthwhile undertaking there are unexpected hurdles, so the unexpected really wasn't unexpected.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Getting enough traffic.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Getting good links. It's a lot of work, but so far I have some great sites linking to me, and some really talented, nice people.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

It's a lot more work!

How long have you run the site already, and how long will yoyou don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?u continue to keep it up if

The site was only launched 7 months ago, so there is a lot of time for growth. I'm taking it one day at a time.

What is your website address?
