Liva Gem Loft~Island Gem Designs Interview

By Interviewer at 02/12/09 12:03

Name of your website?

Liva Gem Loft~Island Gem Designs

Your name?

Launa Liva

Your Location (city, etc)

Brampton

Please give us a short summary of your website?

Quality Artisan Jewelry is available for viewing or purchase at this website. It provides a gallery of tastefully designed necklaces, earrings, bracelets, anklets, rings & an archive of "sold" designs that a viewer may request a duplicate. The styles offered are; Casual trendy; Classic elegance; Gypsy Boho; Gala wear; Exotic Islander; Bridal; Religious / Occasional pieces & Children's sets.

Who can resist gorgeous blue, purple, yellow turquoise; sea coral; amazonite; jade; black onyx; chrysocolla; Swarovski & Czech crystal, blue ruby; opalite; bronzite; lampwork glass; sea glass & cinnabar? All the featured designs are crafted with Grade A to AAA materials, yet, they are quite affordable! To see it, is to believe it!! The website is extremely "user-friendly" & like a "road-map", the details will lead you to your desired destination!

What inspired you to launch your own website?

I buy 95% of my purchases on-line & I have saved a tremendous amount of money doing so. It is easy, convenient & fun, so why not sell my products on-line? To do so, I need to showcase my designs to allow prospective clients to view the quality workmanship & unique designs that I offer. I love what I do & as a growing business, a website can provide convenience for myself as well as the customer. They do not require a vehicle or pay for expensive gasoline; the only labour-intensive aspect of on-line buying is having to use the keyboard & the product arrives at the doorstep! No line-ups; no traffic; no cranky sales clerks & the children can play in their rooms while you shop on-line! This website can offer information that is otherwise, not easily available to consumers & that is essential in order for them to make an educated decision about buying my products. Similar to a magazine or billboard ad, my website advertises products that can be seen but not touched & that is the only drawback.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

This is my first website endeavor! It actually involves a lot of work & creative thinking but it is mentally stimulating too......

How did you decide on a name for your website?

The name I chose for the website refers to my line of Artisan Jewelry-it is my personal name.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

I'm not certain whether my website is better, worse or equal to other Artisan Jewelry websites because it's all subjective. My main goal is to offer a website that is very user-friendly; warm & inviting; visually appealing for both genders although the product-use is mainly for women & I want the website to reflect who I am as a creative individual that sells her designsthis is more so, of a personal experience for me, rather than an impersonal business endeavor.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

My website generates income & provided I continue designing, I intend to keep it.....unless I get an "Indecent Proposal" of a million dollars for it!

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

This is difficult to determine at present. The "infancy stage" requires a lot of personal time & effort but the investment is worth it.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

I would certainly consult with professionals but insist that my personality be reflected in the finished product. I would definitely invest more in having the website promoted.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Yes. I'm pro-active & highly organized.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

Costs are not an issue at present but creating the website required many revisions.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Creating a suitable banner & logo.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Word of mouth is the best so far. Business cards have helped & I'm trying other online methods at present.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

I expected the unexpected so I'm not overwhelmed, yet.

How long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

I'm stubborn, so I will not give up until I've exhausted my options to increase traffic!

What are the incentives for people to view your website?

I offer the opportunity to everyone to spend their money wisely & save with the discounts that I offer. Working-class individuals (like myself) need to spread their hard-earned cash in order to get more & I won't pay inflated prices, so why would I charge them? I believe in getting more for less....that is "old-school" thinking but during difficult economical times, we may need to assess our habits of indulging in our "wants" & cut back. But I don't charge couture prices, so people can still afford to indulge in the products I offer. When the products sell, I create more designs & customers save more money, therefore, it is a win-win situation--thanks to the website!
